Review: "A matter of honour" by Jeffrey Archer

Are you on the lookout for a thrilling book as well as an useful English-learning tool? If so, J. Archer’s bestselling “A matter of honour” is for you. When Adam Scott plucks up the courage to open the letter which was part of his late father’s inheritance, and the contents of which his mother stubbornly refuses to know, problems present themselves in Adam’s life. The plot , almost impossible to foresee, describes accurately the unbelievable events that our hero had to face.

Don’t be put off by the length of the book; by far it deserves a second reading. From the very beginning you will be gripped by the unique storytelling, which clearly shows the writer’s undoubted flair for writing. The appealing plot, full of unexpected twists and impressive intrigues, will surely hold your breath throughout the whole book while making you wonder what will happen next. The presence of some humourous hints, in a suitable dose, will lead to unexpected laughs giving a unique touch to some situations.

As an English-learning source, it displays loads of enriching and sophisticated vocabulary, as well as useful grammatical constructions, which will surely increase any advanced learner’s vocabulary at its most. At the same time, you are given the chance to learn a bit of history of the 20th. century, making it a must for history-lovers.

“A matter of honour” is ideal for anyone who is aiming at both relishing an exciting novel and profitting from an uncomparable learning experience.

This piece of writing has been done fulfilling a CAE writing task, in which a book review was due to be written.
